The long waited summer vacation is finally here. Oh how I've been waiting for this. Four weeks of nothing but relaxing and lots of physical work. If you've seen pictures of my summer house in flickr, you'll know that there is an endless array of houses, barns, sauna's, furnitures, docks etc. to be fixed, painted, coated etc. But it's so much fun it doesn't feel like work at all. Even though muscles ache in the evening, the smoke sauna and birch "vihta" will fix everything. A dip in the lake is the icing on the cake.

This vacation is actually a special one because I'm moving to the countryside, too. I will leave Helsinki after living here for 20 years, 10 of them in Lauttasaari. Sob. My new residence will be an old wooden house in Vihti, some 30 kilometers up from Helsinki. This is some culture shock to me, since I was born in Helsinki and lived in cities all my life. It will be very strange waking up in the morning hearing nothing but the birds sing.  Most likely  I will fall in love with it and never move back to a city again.
