News on paper

I had a strange deja-vu feeling yesterday when I opened the Sunday newspaper. I realized that it has been a long, long time since I've read the paper edition of Helsingin Sanomat. We are so used to reading news online, on text-TV and with the mobile device that you don't even realize that you haven't touched the actual paper in a long time. It was a nice experience, a little like going back to your childhood and tasting something your grandmother used to bake.

I actually felt a little guilty for holding that huge pile of paper in my hand, and then tossing it away like ..err.. yesterday's newspaper. I don't know how many trees were cut to produce that paper, but even one is too many. If you read Helsingin Sanomat on Sundays, you'll know what I'm talking about. Hello you guys developing electronic paper! Move it!

Imagine in the future you could upload any newspaper, magazine or comic onto an intelligent screen. Newsstands would just display electronic cover pages of the magazines, and you could by the content just by touching the cover with your screen. I wish it was future already.
