Nokia open sources S60

Now it's done (and phew, not a day too late, if want my opinion). Nokia announced to open source the S60 software after a ramp-up period of two years. Nokia with 9 other industry big-league players will form an open foundation around Symbian, combining the best of S60, UIQ and MOAP(S), first aligning the offering and then putting it all out under Eclipse Public License. Selected components will be made open source already at launch.

As the former promoter of Nokia's open source development and current promoter of S60 I am naturally thrilled and overjoyed of this news. Watch this space for more news as they come in.
