Get those photos moving

Heli Rantavuo's doctoral thesis on mobile camera usage 'Connecting photos - A qualitative study of cameraphone photo use' describes how people use their camera phones. That is, they use it as a camera. People haven't learned how to share their photos, how to upload them to their computers or online.

According to the study, only men who already were familiar with technology, are the ones to distribute and share their photos. Women, even the ones who are using technology in other areas, often asked their husbands or boyfriends to transfer their photos for them. A main reason for this was their past experiences in failing to complete the task, past failures didn't encourage them to try it out again.

This is a failure from the phone manufacturers'  and service providers' part. Sharing the photos should be a main use case and made as simple as brewing coffee - even simpler. I have to admit that I behave in a similar way. I have installed all  kinds of neat applications on my phone, but when they don't work it takes me months before I try them out again. Why disappoint yourself when you can live without them. This is a worrying sign  for the industry.

Now, let's make sure the Ovi keeps its promises and makes its usage easy.

Correction to the writing: The first paragraph should read: Heli Rantavuo's doctoral thesis on mobile camera usage 'Connecting photos - A qualitative study of cameraphone photo use' describes how people use their camera phones. That is, they use it as a camera. People haven't learned how to share their photos, how to upload them to their computers or online.

The entry got corrupted and even though I've changed the text in the blog tool, the correct text won't appear. Apologies to Heli Rantavuo for incorrect info there.
