Watching ther grass grow, or tomatoes actually
A week ago I planted the first seeds for this years crop. I had dried out some tomato and paprika seeds, and planted them in soil, watered, and - presto - already four days later the first sign of life appeared. I'm so excited. Last year was the first whole summer living in the country, and I was way too late planting all the veggies. This year I won't make that mistake.
Once it's warm enough I will move the seedlings into greenhouse and make sure they will get plenty of sun and water. Carrots, lettuce, parsley, basil, rosemary, chives, garlic, peas and butter beans will accompany the tomatoes and paprika in the greenhouse. Swedes, beetroot, black salsify, potatoes, and various onions will get a spot outside.
If one of you is crazy enough to follow this slow food manifesto, I'm uploading pics of the baby tomatoes in flicr.

Funny thing happened. One evening I was making pop corn from corn seeds, and broke the bag. The tiny pop corn pieces flew all over the kitchen, and some landed in the soil next to tomatoes.
I noticed this the next day, and pushed the seeds into the soil. Now I have two baby corn sprouts as well. Go and see the pics.
