CTIA Thursday, Verizon OS talk and Firefox Fennec
Yesterday Verizon said they don't really care about the OS's as long as they can develop their own services on top of them. Today, they say that there are too many OS's. Contradicting messages happen often when different people represent the company, but it's more rare when the same person comments on a matter entirely differently on one day and the next. Perhaps Lowell McAdam had a bad day (but which day?), or maybe the journalist just didn't quote him correctly (but which journalist?). This will keep the interest up for some time.
Searchme was one of the companies picked by AT&T on their fast pitches. Searchme is a 'next generation search engine, designed from the ground up to provide a superior search experience over traditional text-based engines that were built more than ten years ago.' Their application delivers images of the search query, be they websites, images or videos, right onto the phone screen. The app is available for Symbian based phones and others.
Firefox demoed their mobile browser, the Fennec. The browser includes some nice features, for example, you can pick up the tabs on your mobile browser, that you left open when you left your PC. That's nice. They call it the Weave, shown in pic below.
Firefox also bets on the popular netbook wagon (we used to call this "convergence"), and the first demos are shown on a Nokia N810 Internet Tablet. Firefox will conduct some beta rounds before introducing the browser on Nokia's Maemo platform over the summer. Symbian version will follow later this year.
