Sailing ships are coming back
Some time ago I wrote about the phenomenon that I called Nature 2.0 the emerging of nature inspired and environmentally friendly technologies. I used tall sailing ships as an example of a way to travel and to tranport cargo in the future. Well, now the future - or should I say past - is here, or what do you say about this picture from STX shipping company. This could be the way to travel from Finland to Sweden, for example, replacing all those current polluting vessels running on diesel.

Viking Line who operates in the Baltic Sea, is also planning ships that run on natural gas. Any cleanup of the Baltic Sea would be most welcome, as the weekend's paper published the amounts of dioxin and PCB found in sea trout, both lethal poisons which accumulate in people because of the food chain. The amounts in trouts are anywhere between 6,7 to 15,8 pg/g, when EU's restriction on eatible food is 8 pg/g. The older (i.e. the bigger) the fish, the more poison it includes. To be honest, I do have to note that most PCB comes from air in central europe, originating from energy production, waste management, and metal and process industry, thus not from the vessels. However cleaner sea would delight everyone.
Think, if you could start replacing air travel with sea travel and do it the good old fashioned way, the slow and non-polluting way. Together with superb mobile communications you could spend a working week on the ship while transferring from London to New York. Co2 emission zero.

Catch-up services were mostly Peer to Peer where users would download an application and data would be shared between the users rather than the service provider giving the now more commonly used steaming method.

That's interesting, i hope there soon will be more ships to follow its example. I think the cruise owners would be delighted to save some more money on gas, and adopt this type of veils instead. As a passenger i would be delighted to be on such a ship, i find it really romantic and the fact that it doesn't pollute the water would make me feel such an relief...

I imagine these ships will revolutionize sea travel! And hopefully they will be more affordable to travel on compared to normal liners running on diesel. These would have the added benefit of improving tourism for many countries.
