Air-Fuelled Battery
We all know what fuel cell batteries are. They come in many forms, and can be considered very "green", or "not green at all" depending on what type of fuel is used. But what if the fuel needed would be air? That's certainly clean. The University of St.Andrew is developing an air-fuelled battery that could give up to 10 times from power to, let's say mobile phones, than current lithium batteries do.
"The new design has the potential to improve the performance of portable electronic products and give a major boost to the renewable energy industry. The batteries will enable a constant electrical output from sources such as wind or solar, which stop generating when the weather changes or night falls." Read full story here.
This would be a welcomed breakthrough, as many of today's alternative energy sources are not easily applicable for small electronic devices because of their physical size or poor energy efficiency, or storage capabilities.

PS: This has nothing to do with batteries, but as an old Smiths fan had to mention this: The same university published an academic research last Friday on Morrissey, "The greatest living oddity". How peculiar!
