Personal solar power
I'm often drawn to BIG ideas and BIG solutions on how to solve the BIG problems we've created for ourselves on this planet. Equally, I tend to get excited about research topics that will, at best, realize in 5-10 years from now. However, once in a while a small company or a small product comes along, that could potentially have a BIG impact already today. Suntrica is one of these companies.
Their idea is to provide a small, personal solar powered pad for charging your mobile phones and other gadgets. From their website:

Like many startups, the Suntrica guys are really excited about their technology. I don't blame them, this is an exciting area. Just a couple of years into excistence, they have two products out, a range of solutions lined up, and from my talks with their R&D head in the Mobile Brain Bank meetup in Tampere last week, plenty of new IP coming up, too.
I wish them all the success also in building their company, refining business and retail strategy, marketing and branding. Renewable energy has a market pull, but there is also a firece competition emerging.
However, as long as mobile phones keep getting more and more sophisticated (read: energy-hungry), Suntrica should be all right. At least I could hook up my N97 on a solar strap for all day long, certainly wouldn't hurt. I'm the same way, I do my best to remain neutral. It's hard, if you communicate with the person the other person dislikes, then you fall out of favor with them! I simple can't dislike a person, just because someone else does, I just can't.
